Timeform UK SmartPlays: Tuesday August 5

Tuesday's UK SmartPlays include a bet at Ffos Las

"In the 16:00 at Ffos Las, Reesha looks set to give another bold show."

Timeform mix it up on Tuesday, bringing you bets from Catterick, Ffos Las and Kempton.

Special Fighter only hit the track in May, but like many of Mark Johnston's he has made swift progress through regular racing and can continue his improvement in the 15:15 at Catterick. His two wins so far have come over a mile and a half and he demolished a fair field from the front when last seen a week ago. He's up in class here and must defy a penalty, but today's extra furlong is expected to suit and the manner of his recent victory suggests that he could still be well in. The booking of George Baker catches the eye on Gambol and he can chase the selection home.

In the 16:00 at Ffos Las, Reesha looks set to give another bold show. She has not run a bad race all season and has gone very close to adding to her maiden victory in two handicap starts. She has taken a rise in the weights as a consequence, but should have more to give after just four starts. Her ability to handle today's softer ground is an unknown and may prove an advantage for main rivals Swan Lakes and By Jupiter, however our preference is for Roger Varian's progressive filly.

The Gosden yard remains in flying form and Venturous Spirit is taken to land them another winner in the 19:00 at Kempton. This well-bred colt has not set the world alight in three maiden starts, but hinted at ability when tried over a mile on the second of his three starts. He could be starting off on a very handy mark having found seven furlongs too sharp when last seen and with William Buick back in the saddle it is hoped he will go well. C&D winner Si Senor looks the main danger.
