Today's UK Smartplays go at Brighton and Leicester...

Fruit Pastille broke her maiden at the tenth attempt last time out at Lingfield and appears to have a good chance of following up in the 16:15 at Brighton. She and the runner-up were a long way clear that day and she gave the impression that a step up in trip to could bring about improvement. This should help her defy a 4lb rise and see off the unexposed This Is The Day.

Course specialist Fairy Mist should again go well in Brighton's 17:15. He and William Carson have struck up a successful partnership this season and appear to have their optimum conditions again today. He's gone up just a pound for a close third to improving three-year-old Clapperboard over C&D when last seen and, with the Bridger yard in good heart, should make at least a place today.

Shingle made a good impression when winning by eight lengths on debut at Ffos Las at the end of last month and can go in again in the 18:00 at Leicester. He didn't beat much that day, but could hardly have done it better and showed enough potential to suggest he may live up to his fine pedigree. Ed De Giles' horses are running well and the booking of Oisin Murphy is a clear positive so a good effort can be expected. Ridge Ranger is also entitled to progress from a winning debut and is the main danger.
