Nicks Power hasn't matched his hurdles form in two tries over fences but the winning pointer remains open to plenty of improvement in this sphere and has been given a huge chance by the handicapper. Nicks Power made little impression last time, coming home a well-beaten fourth at Worcester, but whether that effort warranted a 9 lb drop in the weights is highly debatable and he has been found an excellent opportunity this afternoon (14:30 Southwell) from his reduced mark, provided the drop back to two miles doesn't prove to be an inconvenience.
Moyode Wood hasn't been since finishing runner-up in August 2012 but trainer Brian Ellison is extremely adept at readying one on the back of an absence and the lightly raced eight-year-old can take the 26-furlong handicap chase at Carlisle (15:25). Moyode Wood has only had two starts under Rules, finishing runner-up on both occasions, and he looks fairly treated on his handicap bow, especially as he remains open to plenty of progress for his in-form handler.
Presenting Junior was a poor maiden hurdler but he has shown progressive form over fences and was arguably unfortunate not to complete the hat-trick last time, finishing runner-up behind the reopposing Chicago Outfit having pressed for home too soon. Presenting Junior can quickly get back to winning ways by claiming the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase at Carlisle (17:00). It is possible that Presenting Junior may have slightly needed the run at Kelso last time as he had been off the track for seven weeks, and he looks as if he could still be ahead of his mark. He should continue to progress and may take a bit of beating.
