The progressive Mince gets us underway on Sunday, the three-year-old taken to gain her fourth win of 2012 by landing the 14:55. Trained by Roger Charlton, Mince ran her best race yet when winning at Pontefract last month, a slightly muddling pace not preventing the best two fillies coming to the fore in that listed event as she beat Ultrasonic by two lengths. Pepper Lane looks to be the pick of the weights and could prove the main danger, but she is not as consistent as she used to be and this looks a good opportunity for Mince to complete the hat-trick.
Jawhar (15:30) appeals as the type to take off having landed his first success in handicaps at Yarmouth last month, and he seems sure to go well here. The four-year-old's development appeared to be stalling on his penultimate start, when third at Goodwood, but he ran his best race yet to come out on top at Yarmouth on his first attempt at 10 furlongs, winning with a bit in hand. There are a number of dangers, Double Cee and Alfred Hutchinson appealing the most prevalent, but Jawhar is a confident selection to land the spoils.
Moving on to the 16:35, where Priceless Jewel is worthy of another chance with things having not gone her way since winning at Kempton in May. Like our first selection Mince, Priceless Jewel hails from the Roger Charlton yard, and the suspicion is that she is better than her current handicap mark of 88. Her Kempton win, on handicap debut, was impressive as she beat Galician cosily, and she can be forgiven her run of C&D in June (on softer ground than previously) and her latest start at Newmarket, not seen to best effect after travelling well in mid-field. This is a competitive event, but Priceless Jewel can score.
