The 14:30 at Ayr looks a lowly handicap at face value but there seems to be a decent betting opportunity in the shape of Emerald's Spirit, who heads the Timeform ratings and should have enough to defeat those in opposition this afternoon. Her last three efforts have all been to a similar level and there is every reason to believe that Emerald Spirit can produce the same kind of form once more. Berbice is likely to pose the biggest danger but our selection should be able to fend that one off to land the victory.
The majority of British focus will be on Andy Murray in the final of Wimbledon this afternoon, but our attention will be on the Bet On Wimbledon Final Handicap, a contest run over a mile at 15:00 at Ayr. Tazaamun looks the most likely winner and it's that one that we side with based on his promising run last time. Tazaamun is not only a Timeform top-rated selection but also a Horse In Focus, and he represents excellent value in today's contest. The way he travelled last time suggests he is a horse well in advance of his mark and he should be able to take a contest of this nature sooner rather than later.
An amateur riders' handicap can often be a difficult betting proposition, but Serena Brotherton is a more than capable pilot and she is well worth a win bet at current odds aboard Toffee Nose (17:00, Ayr). Toffee Nose's display at Redcar last time suggests he may be an improved individual this year and he can break his maiden at the eighth time of asking in a race where he won't have to step forward further to take the victory. Toffee Nose's trainer has been in the winner's enclosure in recent days and there is a strong possibility that the gelding add to his tally.
