We suggest a couple of bets at Ayr

Timeform's two best bets on a tricky day of racing both run at Ayr...

We'll kick off proceedings with a Group 3 from Ayr on Gold Cup Day, the Firth of Clyde Stakes over 6 furlongs (14:05) and it may pay to keep the faith in Ainippe. She confirmed the promise of her debut when landing a listed race at the Curragh last month, and wasn't beaten far when fifth in the Flying Childers at Doncaster last time. With further progress most definitely on the cards and the step up in trip she encounters here sure to suit, she should be more than capable of returning to winning ways. The likes of Prize Exhibit and Spirit of Xian will ensure Ainippe won't have it all her own way, but Ger Lyons' filly could prove a cut above today's rivals.

We head to Newbury for the next contest under consideration, the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes (14:20) and Limato is a confident selection to bring home the bacon. Henry Candy's exciting juvenile looked destined for better things when scoring with plenty in hand in a C&D listed event three months ago. The second that day, Cotai Glory, subsequently came out and won a decent renewal of the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, rubber stamping what already looked a very strong piece of form. The consistent Jungle Car merits respect but the selection should register an impressive victory on his way to loftier assignments. NON RUNNER

We return to Scotland for our final bet on Saturday which comes in the feature contest, the Ayr Gold Cup over six furlongs (15:50). Watchable has to be respected under a penalty after landing a valuable prize in Ireland last weekend, but it's a big ask for him to reproduce that form so soon and narrow preference is for Burn The Boats. He also has a sprint handicap victory to his name at the Curragh, albeit in 2013, and wasn't knocked about in Ireland last weekend. He remains unexposed at this trip and looks excellent value on the pick of his form, although as you can imagine there is a very long list of potential dangers.
