Timeform UK SmartPlays: Saturday August 4

Today's SmartPlays all come from Newmarket

The form of Usain Colt's maiden win last year has worked out very well, and this potential improver should be supported again.

The final day of Glorious Goodwood undoubtedly provides the best of Saturday's action, but it is, unsurprisingly, an ultra-competitive card at the West Sussex venue, so we turn to Newmarket to find our best bets...

Olympic Glory proved to be an aptly-named winner at Goodwood this week, and whilst we won't be basing our selections on tenuous links to the Olympics, it is hard to ignore the claims of Usain Colt (14:20). Richard Hannon's three-year-old may not prove to be a superstar like his human counterpart, but he has shown a fair amount of ability, certainly enough to suggest he can win off a BHA mark of 86. His latest effort at Sandown was full of promise, as he stayed on powerfully towards the finish having not been ideally positioned when they kicked for home. Also, it should not be forgotten that he had been off the track for three months prior to that run, so he possibly wasn't at his sharpest. The form of Usain Colt's maiden win last year has worked out very well, and this potential improver should be supported again.

Sheikhzayedroad (15:25) got off the mark when beating subsequent winner Warcrown in a Hamilton maiden, and he has created a good impression in his two ventures into handicap company, winning with plenty to spare at Brighton last time. He travelled very powerfully on that occasion, also displaying an impressive turn of foot, but he still looked green when hitting the front and there is definitely more to come from this progressive type as he gains experience. The 7lb rise he incurred for the Brighton success should not be enough to stop him winning again.

Tazahum (16:05) has not been at his best this year, putting up below-par displays on both starts, however he is provided with a good opportunity to make amends today. He drops in class to contest this minor event and, based on his three-year-old form, he enjoys a class edge over his rivals. The conditions of the race are in Tazahum's favour and he should really be capable of taking this prize, even if unable to recapture the very best of his form.
