The Richard Rowe-trained Watergate has been operating below his best for some time now but he really ought to be competitive in a race of this nature and is awarded the vote in Plumpton's 14:50. The seven-year-old has shaped better than the bare result on occasion, hinting at a revival on his penultimate start but typically going backwards from that when upped to an unsuitable trip at Fontwell last month. The handicapper has given him a definite chance and he will be suited by the return to two and a half miles, so it is hoped that he can put it all together in a race that probably won't take much winning.
Wayward Glance, successful over hurdles at Worcester for Jim Best in August, wasn't disgraced on his return to the Flat on debut for Keith Dalgleish at Newcastle last week and he is fancied to take Pontefract's 16:40 with the ckeekpieces in place once more. Cowslip is likely to prove the main danger if bouncing back from a below-par effort in the same Newcastle affair but Wayward Glance looks a fair price at present and is the one to side with.
If Moccasin can reproduce the form over his C&D second from last month then he would be the one to beat in the 17:40 but he was below-par at Redcar when last seen and can be taken on with Jordaura, who followed two excellent efforts in defeat with a win at Hamilton last month. A 4 lb rise incurred for that success hardly looks prohibitive and he ought to go well in his follow-up attempt.
