First bet comes in the 14:45, a typical summer handicap over 22 furlongs. The likes of Another Trump could blow the race apart if bouncing back, but a more solid option is represented by Executive's Hall. Although without a win since enjoying a spurt in 2011, Executive's Hall has come back to something like that form in recent starts, finishing third on all three starts this season so far. There have been reasons to mark him up on those bare results, too, his run at Hexham last time coming on seemingly less-than-ideal soft ground. Executive's Hall is the type to remain in form once he finds his way, so he's the dependable option in this race of several unknowns.
The 16:30 is a small-field handicap chase, a good one for the track, with a few useful and in-form contenders. Chief among them appears to be the Donald McCain-trained Atlanta Falcon, whose record since switching to fences this summer is an enviable one: after winning on his debut, he has finished second and first at around this trip in a couple of handicaps. A 5 lb rise for his win last time, which was fought out with the rapidly-improving On The Bridge, looks on the lenient side and the lightly-raced Atlanta Falcon looks sure to go close again.
The 17:00 is another small-field handicap chase in which several have recent winning form to their name, but in this case it could be worthwhile looking away from 1's beside the name. Kosta Brava is potentially better treated than any of his rivals, and shaped as though perhaps coming back to form on his first start for current connections when fourth at Perth last time. Seemingly just shy of peak fitness that day, Kosta Brava should be better with the run behind him and, if able to come back to his best now, will take a lot of beating.
