Lightly raced and unexposed, the Charlie Hills-trained Moss Hill looks to have exceptional claims of getting off the mark in the 14:20 at Wolverhampton. Awarded a lowly mark of 49 following three rather nondescript efforts in maidens, Moss Hill showed much improved form on his first start in handicap company, going extremely close to winning on his polytrack debut as he was overhauled close home, eventually beaten by a short-head. Plenty of encouragement can be taken from that effort and a 2-lb rise in the weights looks by no means prohibitive, particularly as plenty of today's field are either fully exposed or badly out of sorts.
Our next two SmartPlays come from north of the border as we travel to Kelso. Jim Goldie's Arctic Court (15:10) has slipped in the weights following some rather disappointing efforts this season, but his most recent performance, where he finished fourth at Ayr, hinted that a revival may be forthcoming. Well backed after 10 weeks off the track, Arctic Court raced with plenty of zest towards the head of affairs but was slightly outpaced as they quickened in the straight. He did, however, keep on well in the closing stages and ought to make his presence felt racing from the same mark.
Our final selection runs an hour later as we reckon Sleep In First is a good bet to complete the five-timer. Sleep In First has absolutely thrived since moving to James Ewart's yard and the style in which he completed his most recent success - a 10-length victory at Hexham - suggests that a penalty will not be enough to prevent him from keeping his winning sequence going. A strong traveller and fluent jumper, Sleep In First should be too good for his rivals today and can hopefully secure the five-timer in style.
