Our first bet of the day runs in Yarmouth's seven-furlong handicap at 15:00 as we side with the Luca Cumani-trained Lawyer. Lawyer made little impression in maiden company last season, but he entered life in handicaps on a fair mark as a consequence and took full advantage, twice winning at Wolverhampton, doing especially well on the first occasion having met plenty of trouble. Lawyer boasts a progressive profile, is in the right hands to continue improving and ought to launch a bold bid for the hat-trick.
Piazon shaped extremely well when he finished runner-up on his return at Nottingham and he makes plenty of appeal in Yarmouth's extended five-furlong handicap at 15:35. Related to smart sprinters Colonel Mak and Frederick Engels, Piazon is bred to be speedy and he showed at Nottingham that he had a lot of potential as a sprinter, taking a strong hold in the early stages but still running on well to grab second despite not being ideally positioned. Piazon is learning on the job, clearly not yet the finished article, but he remains capable of better having made just the four starts and he should be backed this afternoon.
Lady Mai ran a blinder on her first start for Richard Fahey, not beaten far in third, and she can register a first success in the six-furlong handicap at Redcar (18:10). Lady Mai was well supported at Catterick, indicating that plenty of people feel that her new connections will be able to exploit her lowly mark, and she produced a promising performance, her best yet in fact, as she threw down a determined challenge. This doesn't appear to be an especially strong contest, many of the horses seemingly hiding little from the handicapper, and Lady Mai has been presented with a good opportunity to open her account.
