General Hazard has been firmly on the up recently and still looked comfortably ahead of his mark when fourth at Wolverhampton last time, so he gets the vote with cheekpieces having the potential to eke a bit more out of him. General Hazard has a completely different profile to all of his rivals in this amateur riders' handicap and can give the Michael Bell yard it's second winner of the year.
Brio Conti - Doncaster 16.25
Brio Conti was earmarked at the beginning of the season as one of our 50 "Horses To Follow", with the expectation that he could become a useful prospect as a novice hurdler. His second run of the season, when finishing a close second at Haydock Park in November, was essentially his first run of the season, after falling at the first at Kelso a month earlier. He shaped well on that "debut", and can be forgiven his subsequent run at Cheltenham three weeks later, which perhaps came a little too soon. He's well worth another chance, and can get off the mark at the fourth attempt, ahead of likely improver Wenyerreadyfreddie.
Safe Voyage - 17:45 Newcastle
Safe Voyage produced a career-best to score over course and distance six days ago, and escapes a penalty for that success this evening. The four-year-old had put in a couple of slightly disappointing runs prior to that success, but it's worth chancing that he can confirm the improvement shown last week. Lexington Times' mark has fallen considerably of late, and rates as the biggest danger having caught the eye when a close fifth at Lingfield Park last time out.
