Richard Fahey's Alejandro has really got his act together of late, following up his Ayr success with a career-best effort in defeat when second to Magic City at Goodwood on his most recent outing. He is certainly worthy but we're going to side Frog Hollow, trained by David O'Meara, who won with something up his sleeve at York last time and ought to go well despite a 7 lb hike in the weights. The four-year-old had been knocking on the door since joining this yard and finally came good in what was a decent race on the Knavesmire; he has the ability to defy this mark and can go in again here.
Magique, a half-sister to the very smart Grandeur, has just the maiden win to her name but she is taken to land her first handicap at Newmarket this evening. The three-year-old has finished second on her last two outings in races that have a solid look to them, particularly the Kempton affair on her penultimate outing with both the third and the sixth scoring on their subsequent outings. The supreme Ryan Moore has been booked for the ride, and she looks well worth having on side.
Newmarket's 19:50 looks set to develop into a match between Magic Of Reality and Great Timing and, though it is the former that holds sway in the market, we're going to side with Godolphin's Great Timing. The three-year-old was on an upward curve prior to her effort at Glorious Goodwood butt that is well worth forgiving as she was short of room three furlongs from home and then badly hampered around the two furlong pole, having no chance from that point on. Magic Of Reality is a worthy adversary but Great Timing is marginally preferred.
