Wincanton 14:15 - Ziga Boy
We kick off proceedings with a handicap chase over an extended 25 furlongs and it looks a competitive contest. Buck's Bond is just 2 lb higher than when winning this race last year and merits respect, as does Lily Waugh. However, Ziga Boy is the one for our money on the assumption he is sharper for his return at Exeter. He looks the one who is most capable of improvement off a mark of 119 and with the talented Tom Bellamy claiming 5 lb, he should be able to take advantage of his pull at the weights.
Wincanton 15:20 - Quite By Chance
We remain at Wincanton for the next contest under consideration, an amateur riders' handicap chase over an extended two-and-a-half miles. We think Quite By Chance is hard to ignore, having bumped into a progressive performer over two miles here last time. He still managed to put in an improved performance himself, and with the step up in trip he encounters today unlikely to inconvenience him, he gets the vote to strike over fences at the third time of asking. Uttoxeter scorer Ray Diamond is most feared under a penalty.
Kempton 19:15 - Thecornishcowboy
The final bet of the day comes in a handicap over a mile-and-a-half from Kempton in which it could pay to keep Thecornishcowboy on side. He bounced back to form and was arguably unlucky not to finish closer when fifth at Newmarket in October. Not only does this represent a return to calmer waters, but he can race off a 10 lb lower mark on the all-weather and with that in his favour he looks more than capable of recording his sixth win of 2014. Chauvelin merits respect now handicapping, but it's hoped the selection can cash in on the leniency of the assessor.
