Salisbury Placepot: Wednesday August 12

Wednesday's attempt at the Placepot comes from Salisbury

Faery Song was short of room at a crucial stage on handicap debut but she finished to great effect once in the clear, strongly suggesting that she's on a fair mark..

There's a good meeting at Salisbury this afternoon and that's where we head for Wednesday's attempt at the Placepot.

14:20- Vibrant Chords was unlucky in many respects not to win the C&D maiden he contested on debut when just touched off by a smart newcomer hailing from a top yard. He created a good impression on debut when cruising on the bridle for much of the way, and, with further progress on the cards, he sets a good standard to aim at.

14:50- With Chief Whip a significant non runner, the sensible play looks to be including all three remaining runners. Midhmaar holds the strongest claims, but it wouldn't be a surprise were Spongy or Aleko to prevail, so the best option is to play the percentages and include all three runners, ensuring that we progress to the next leg.

15:25- The lightly-raced Khalaas emerged with credit when finishing fourth in a typically-strong Newmarket handicap last time and he is worth another chance to build on the excellent impression he created when beating a pair of subsequent winners in a Newcastle maiden. The step up in trip looks sure to suit, while William Haggas continues in fine form, so Khalaas should go close.

15:55- Chain of Daisies looks to have been somewhat underestimated in the market given the rate of knots at which she's progressing. The Henry Candy-trained filly has shown a great response to pressure and is definitely going the right way, so seems an ideal type to have in the Placepot. Pamona is another runner who deserves respect as she bumped into an exciting prospect at York last time and is evidently held in some regard. Unlike many of her rivals, Pamona's already proven at this level and she should give another good account.

16:30- Faery Song was short of room at a crucial stage on handicap debut but she finished to great effect once in the clear, strongly suggesting that she's on a fair mark. She looks to have been found an excellent opportunity and should prove difficult to beat against largely-exposed horses that have not been making any great headway in handicaps.

17:00- On the face of it, Manolito was a bit disappointing at Windsor last time, but he was well supported and is presumably thought capable of better. It's possible that this drop back in trip will see Manolito in a better light and he looks fairly handicapped based on the pick of his juvenile efforts.
