With Lightning Thunder having come out, Shifting Power will take all the beating in the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at 14:30. Shifting Power has been set some tough Group 1 tasks this term, but has acquitted himself well and should make the most of a drop in grade to give the Hannons a third consecutive win in this race. Bow Creek will not make things easy for the selection on the back of a mighty run in the Britannia, however he is likely to be undone by Shifting Power's superior speed.
Extortionist has come alive in his last three outings and, with Ryan Moore in the saddle, is taken to see off his rivals in a typically-competitive King George Stakes (15:40). Extorionist gave four of today's opposition a sound beating in the Coral Charge when last seen and encounters his ideal conditions again today. The progressive G Force could be the main danger, while last year's winner Moviesta could appreciate the return to Goodwood, but Extortionist is operating at the top of his game at present and is sure to go close.
Mark Johnston's horses have been running brilliantly this week and Muteela, who contests her first Group race in the 16:50, is rated by the trainer as one of the yard's best chances of the meeting. Unbeaten in four starts, she has been highly progressive so far this season in notching three wins, including a narrow success against more experienced rivals in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot. With the drop back to seven furlongs expected to play in her favour, she looks the one to be on. Queen Catrine chased her home at Ascot and could well do the same here.
