Haydock 12:50 - Optimistic Bias
Optimistic Bias was strong in the betting and duly produced an improved performance to land a share of the spoils on his seasonal return at Aintree last month. The horse he dead-heated with has since won, so the lightly-raced Optimistic Bias looks to have plenty in his favour, still open to marked improvement having made just the four starts under Rules.
Haydock 13:55 - Welsh Shadow
Impressive bumper winner Welsh Shadow was put in his place by Yanworth on his hurdling debut at Exeter earlier in the month, but that horse looks a top prospect, and Welsh Shadow remains with plenty of potential in this sphere. It is encouraging that the third home at Exeter, Barney Dwan, has since run out an easy winner, and Welsh Shadow looks well worth his place in this company.
Ascot 15:50 - Winner Massagot
Winner Massagot landed a maiden hurdle at Kempton in February and was in the process of showing much-improved form when coming down at the last in the Grade 1 Anniversary Hurdle at Aintree. He was well held at the time, but it was still an encouraging effort with the future in mind, and the handicapper looks to have taken a real chance with his opening mark, a BHA rating of 123 almost certainly underplaying his ability.
