Pallas can offer more from good mark
Back Pallasmore Lass @ 5.04/1 in the 17:30 at Roscommon
Wide-open stuff at Roscommon on Monday night, but open stuff means the extra places on the Sportsbook to use if you are backing some hefty prices this evening.
The 17:30 7f race has two last-time-out winners in the top three of the betting in Clear Quartz and Maccliff, but both are very tricky individuals with their own ideas. The former has refused recently, but the latter is a front-runner so could be an option for a back-to-lay.
Laois trainer Kieran Cotter sends Missemma to the track and she is one of the more interesting runs judged on her effort at the Curragh in April when ridden by the champion jockey Colin Keane, and that horse nearly made the list at 34.033/1 for an each-way punt judged on her Curragh run from an uncompromising position, but it's hard to put her up after running so badly last time.
Pallasmore Lass at 6.511/2 looks the more solid as she has put together three good runs this season and will have no problems with the conditions or seeing out the 7f.
Her latest placed run at Cork saw her run over the far side - which this season hasn't been the place to be at the Mallow venue. She got second in the stewards' room following a demotion elsewhere, but she remains unchanged from a mark of 52.
Previously she had been done at 1.251/4 in-play at the same venue with a run down the centre track but was just outstayed.
Pallasmore Lass is well handicapped these days, as her mark has tumbled following a pretty ridiculous rating given to her in the 70s after the initial three starts.
More improvement on the cards for Meade's Eagle
Back Black Hawk Eagle @ 2.56/4 in the 19:30 at Roscommon
The closer at 19:30 over 1m4f should unlock a bit more improvement in the Noel Meade-trained Black Hawk Eagle, and while not as a juicy in price as others, is high on the shortlist for the punt on the card.
He produced an excellent second at Gowran Park last time, on a day when front-runners dominated the racing with the winner making all, Black Hawk Eagle was held up and was staying on with purpose at the end. He was very wide down the straight, but ate up the ground and would have nabbed the one in front with another 50 yards.
As a son of a Guineas victor, he isn't really bred for 1m4f, but stamina looks his weapon, which is why he was well beaten in his first three runs over shorter.
He was well-backed last time for his handicap debut, but he is an improver and is up to defying a 4lb rise with Keane booked - and he has been the top rider at the Connacht venue with a strike rate of 20% in the last five seasons.
