With plenty of rain forecast at Leopardstown on Friday night and Doncaster on Saturday morning, the weather promises to once again have a massive bearing on the big weekend races.
And with both the St Leger and Irish Champion Stakes only having eight runners at the outset, that is potentially very bad news for punters who like to play each-way, though of course if you back Place only on the Exchange and one or more horses come out then the original places stand with a reduction factor applied.
And that should be the template the bookmaking industry follows, if you ask me.
Meanwhile, back in the real world - and at Doncaster to be more precise - Fields Of Athenry looks a very fair bet at 6.86/1 to win the St Leger at 15:45.
I think there is a fair argument that he is the form horse out of the Aidan O'Brien duo, as he beat a couple of progressive sorts with ease in his two Leopardstown wins before running well off a colossal mark of 118 in the Ebor.
And I don't think that he got the credit he deserved for finishing fifth there, especially as enjoyed far from an ideal passage.
I say passage, I probably mean ride if I am being honest, as his 5lb claimer rushed him into contention from his wide draw in 22 and then went for home far too early in the straight.
In the circumstances, he ran remarkably well to hold on for fifth. And while the form isn't working out too well - though the fourth, Toe The Line, ran with credit at Doncaster on Thursday - the York run suggested that there is a lot more to come from him given a more even tempo of a ride.
There isn't a stand-out performer in this race, so you can see why connections of Simple Verse have stumped up the cash to supplement her, especially as they are richer than Croesus (whoever he was).
She took a big step forward when winning the Lillie Langtry at Goodwood last time and has "only" 10lb or so to find be bang in the shake-up here. And that isn't out of the question by any means.

Staying with Doncaster, I quite like the claims of total rag Willbeme in the Portland at 14:35 and she rates a bet at 40.039/1.
You have to forgive her a series of poor runs, though she was drawn out of it on the outside at Beverley last time, but the handicapper has dropped her 6lb as a result and she is now 4lb lower than when third to Monsieur Joe and Red Baron in what was a red-hot 5f York handicap in May.
This course winner has a massive chance in that form, and hopefully she can travel strongly and sweetly from the outset, as she does when she is on song.
You can fully see why the ante-post money arrived for B Fifty Two while Steps is interesting in a first-time visor, but Willbeme will do for me at the price.

Nothing appeals in the Champagne Stakes at 14:00 though doubtless Newmarket winner Emotionless will be all the rage. And the same is true of the Group 7f race at 15:10 which looks a tricky contest to call, especially as any significant rain could well see a couple of big-name withdrawals.
Nothing really stands out at the prices in the two Channel 4 races at Chester, though anyone who saw how unlucky Green Howard was at Musselburgh last time will be keen on his chances off the same mark in the 14:15
But he is a hold-up performer and he obviously will need plenty of luck in running, here, too and I am happy to pass.

Over in Ireland, if all eight stand their ground in the Irish Champion Stakes at ten to seven - sorry, 17:45 - then it is going to be some race.
It is not often a five-and-a-quarter length last time out winner of the Secretariat Stakes would be the outsider of a field - and the seventh in the betting is Pleascach, who won the Yorkshire Oaks last month - but that is the case here with the likes of Golden Horn, Free Eagle and Gleneagles in the line-up.
I can't put up a selection without knowing the ground - plenty of rain is forecast, by all accounts - but I just have a sneaking suspicion that Free Eagle has been laid out for this and is ready to post a career-best. But prices of around 3/1 aren't overly-generous in this field.
And the Matron Stakes match-up between Legatissimo and Amazing Maria at 18:20 isn't too shabby either. Betting.Betfair colleague Tony Keenan has previewed that one and likes the latter.
But I'll keep my powder dry and go just with the Doncaster duo.
