Waialae has been the sole venue for this tournament since the Hawaiian Open made its PGA Tour debut in November 1965.
This year's edition has attracted five of the world's top-20 golfers, highlighted by the visits of world number eight Bryson DeChambeau and reigning Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama.
The winner of last week's tournament at Kapalua, Cameron Smith, is also teeing-up on Thursday.
More than half of those who played in the Sentry Tournament of Champions have made the 75-mile trip to compete at Waialae.
Course characteristics
Opening for business in 1927, Waialae offers a sharp contrast to the venue which hosted last week's tournament at Kapalua.
It is both shorter and tighter, as well as flatter, with players needing to deliver greater accuracy from the tee.
Although Waialae has plenty of trees dotted across its layout, it can hardly be described as surrounded by dense vegetation - far from it.

And, as can be viewed from the stats listed below, this week's event has yielded plenty of low scores in recent years.
Six of the last nine winners of this tournament have posted 72-hole totals of 260 or less, so a hot putter will be required again this week.
To illustrate how low the scoring is likely to be; of the 106 golfers to have completed 10 or more competitive rounds at Waialae since the start of 2016, the worst stroke average is 70.60.

Five to Watch
Corey Conners: A solid and accurate performer off the tee, which are skills that will assist him greatly at this week's tight venue. He tees-up for the first time since mid-November.
Matt Jones: Finished strongly last week to stand on the podium at Kapalua. He tied-11th at Waialae 12 months ago.
Kevin Kisner: Put together four solid rounds in the Sentry Tournament of Champions to finish inside the top-10, and has posted a trio of T-5s at Waialae from last six visits.
Marc Leishman: The second highest-ranked Australian in world golf opened his 2022 account with a tied-10th at Kapalua - and was tied-fourth in Honolulu last year.
Webb Simpson: Top-four finishes in each of his last three trips to Waialae where his stroke average since the beginning of 2016 is an impressive 66.55.
