Find Me a 100 Winner: Three long shots chanced at between 119/1 and 319/1

Laurie Canter - fancied to go weel again in Dubai

Steve Rawlings has one triple-figure pick in the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour and two long-shot fancies at this week's PGA Tour event - the American Express here...

As highlighted in the Dubai Desert Classic preview, I'm keen on the chances of the four-time winner and pre-event favourite, Rory McIlory, and this has been a tournament where the well-fancied runners have prospered of late.

Only two of the last 10 winners have gone off at a triple-figure price and the last four victors have gone off at 10/111.00 or shorter but I've picked out one here at a juicy price.

The two-time major winner, Dustin Johnson, looks a huge price given he should take to the venue and Poland's Adrian Meronk looks big given his course form numbers read 4-MC-2-MC but for my sole selection in Dubai, I'm plumping for another LIV golfer, their latest recruit - Laurie Canter.

Dubai Desert Classic bet - Laurie Canter @ 120.0119/1

The 36-year-old Englishman, Laurie Canter, who won next week's event, the Bahrain Championship, 12 months ago, again showed his liking for desert golf when he earnt a PGA Tour card with a third place finish at the DP World Championship in November around the Earth Course in Dubai, but instead of heading off across the Pond, Canter has elected to replace the relegated Henrik Stenson on the Majesticks Team on the LIV Tour, where he made 21 appearances between 2022 and 2024.

With the likes of Richard Bland, in 2022, Patrick Read, in 2023, and the aforementioned Meronk, in 2024, all finishing second here, and last year's edition, going the way of Tyrrell Hatton, this has already been an event in which LIV golfers have performed with plenty of credit, and having finished third 12 months ago, Canter looks a very fair price at triple-figures given he's no bigger than 66/167.00 on the High Street.

The negatives are his poor performance last time out in the Nedbank at the start of December, when he withdrew after round three, and the adverse press attention since his decision to defect was made but public but with course form numbers 4-73-MC-3, and with a potentially advantageous early tee-time tomorrow, the big hitting Dubai-based Englishman is impossible to ignore.

American Express bet #1 - Lee Hodges @ 220.0219/1

As highlighted in the American Express preview, this week's PGA Tour event has been a decent tournament for long-shots, and a previous start has been key.

As many as 18 of the last 20 winners have had at least one warm up event in Hawaii (a big negative for the favourite, Scottie Scheffler), so I'm chancing two here that lined up in last week's Sony Open, starting with the resurgent 30-year-old Alabamian, Lee Hodges.

Hodges showed his aptitude for a low-scoring birdie-fest when he romped to a seven-stroke victory at the 3M Open when a column selection at 100.099/1 in 2023, setting the tournament record of 24-under-par.

His best performance on the PGA Tour prior to that win had been in this event in 2022 when he finished third on debut behind Hudson Swafford.

He hasn't reproduced that event form since, with disappointing figures reading MC-MC-34 for the three subsequent years, but he's never arrived in California in particularly good form, which is something he does this time around.

Having signed of 2025 with a fourth-place finish at the RSM Classic, Hodges kicked off 2026 with a sixth in the Sony Open last week, where he shot rounds of 70-67-67-65.

With the rust blown away, Hodges looks well worth chancing at odds of around 200/1201.00 on the Exchange.

American Express bet #2 - Nick Dunlap @ 320.0319/1

As highlighted in the preview, multiple winners of this event are fairly common, so I'm happy to chance another Alabamian, the 2024 winner, Nick Dunlap, who beat Christiaan Bezuidenhout by a stroke when still an amateur.

Arnold Palmer won this event five times in total and as many as 10 men have won it at least twice, including the aforementioned Swafford, who has only ever won three times on the PGA Tour.

Dunlap, who also won the Barracuda Championship in California in 2024, is still only 22 years old so he still has plenty of scope and his inconsistency can easily be forgiven.

Dunlap finished only eighth in the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico in November, where he'd led at halfway, and he derailed at the Sony Open last week too, shooting 77 on Saturday having sat tied for 10th and just two off the lead at halfway, but both those efforts suggests he's not far off and odds in excess of 300.0299/1 are ludicrous for a former winner with bags of potential.
