Local player Markus Stoeger won the second Betfair Poker LIVE! event in Austria on Sunday evening December 5 taking home a bumper first prize of €30,680 after a long heads up battle with fellow Austrian Christian Kern.

Despite chaotic weather throughout Europe a record breaking 595 players entered the €100k GTD tournament producing a prizepool just shy of 150K for the event which began on December 2nd and included many Betfair regulars including sponsored pro John Tabatabai.

After days 1a and 1b the number of players had decreased to 219, of which 18 players reached the final day. German Sven Bahnsen, who had been in first position at the start of day 2 already, started the race on Sunday as chipleader. Due to lots of action the final 9 players were decided within less than 2 hours of play. Austrian Peter Karall was in the best position with 2m chips when the final table kicked off, but nevertheless he was the first to leave the stage. Out of 4 Betfair players, who were engaged at the final table, German Manoj Chamakala lasted longest. The 3rd place was worth 14,100 Euros for him, plus a $1,700 package for Betfair Poker LIVE! Kiev in January.

In the Heads Up Markus Stoeger managed a complete turnaround against his opponent, who started with a 9m to 3m chip lead. The decisive hand was a pre-flop all-in from Christian with Ah Qd, after Markus had raised 2 BB with Ks 6s. With the board showing Kh 6d 4d 8h 5h Markus hit two pair and Christian lost most of his stack. A few minutes later Christian pushed all-in with 8c 7h and got an instant call from Markus holding Ah Kc. With 2s Qc 9h 4s 10s on the board the winner and the final ranking was decided:

1.Markus Stoeger, Austria, 30,680 €
2.Christian Kern, Austria, 21,200 €
3.Manoj Chamakala, Germany, 14,100 €
4.Roman Kump, Austria, 11,300 €
5.Wojciech Soltys, Poland, 8,540 €
6.Christof Mazios, Cyprus, 7,060 €
7.Sven Bahnsen, Germany, 5,650 €
8.Dawid Paczka, Poland, 4,230 €
9.Peter Karall, Austria, 2,780 €

Having busted at the bubble (61st place) on day 2 Laszlo Siba from Hungary received a $200 ChampionChip ticket and a bottle of Champagne courtesy of Betfair Poker. Another player from Poland was a lucky guy although he didn't even get close to the bubble: Jacek Borecki sent home mysterious "BF Bounty" and secured a $750 package for Betfair Poker LIVE! London as a bounty prize.

The next tour stopps of the Betfair Poker LIVE! series in 2011 will be Kiev with a $150,000 GTD Main Event (buy-in $1,000) from 17th to 23rd January, followed by London in February. Qualification is going to kick off shortly on Betfair Poker from as little as $0.03.
