Barnfield must win Sussex Cup before attempting Irish Derby
Exclusive revealed on Betfair Radio 2's new greyhound show - broadcasting every Tuesday at 4pm. Listen again here!
Barnfield On Air will have to successfully defend his Sussex Cup title to earn a tilt at the Irish Derby. That came from Darren Keefe, assistant to trainer Sam Poots, when interviewed on Betfair Radio's Dog Show on Tuesday evening.
Keefe also convincingly refuted the suggestion that Barnfield On Air had been disappointing during an English Derby campaign which ultimately saw him fall at the semi-final stage of the 480-metre Wimbledon feature.
Chris Page, the Walthamstow general manager, was also on the show and he spoke of his disappointment at the news that the East London track - considered to be the flagship venue in the UK - is set to close on August 16 but he looked optimistically towards the future following his appointment as GM at Harlow.
Pat Rosney, the Nottingham trainer, gave listeners an interesting insight into the promise being shown by Westmead Frisky, his Cock O' the North finalist, and Elaine Parker spoke of her hopes that Droopys Sheehy can emulate Mahers Boy and win the Classic at Sunderland's Festival of Racing.
For all the latest news from the greyhound world, backed up by interviews with all the leading players, it just has to be the Dog Show, live on Betfair Radio's Channel 2 every Tuesday at 4pm.
