"The Betfair Arc is currently occupying the minds of form students ahead of Saturday's second round at Swindon. Fastest of the round was first heat winner Westmead Osprey with a 28.83sec success for trainer Nick Savva... "
All the latest from down the dogs, including a Prestige winner, an Arc pretender and why Sullivan's Stow bid is still very much alive.
Lorrys Options is the new Betfair Prestige champion.
The Dean Childs-trained greyhound produced the goods in Tuesday's final at Hall Green to land an on-the-night gamble on the trap one runner. Led up by the St Leger champion Kinda Easy, who attracted the layers through the night as doubts about the going on the outside gathered pace, Lorrys Options was soon second and hit the front approaching the penultimate turn.
It landed the first major trophy of the year for young trainer Childs, who continued where he left off in 2009 to earn a place in the Betfair Trainers' Championship meeting at Doncaster in March 23.

Hall Green acted quickly to deflect criticism after an apparent late opening of the traps on Tuesday. In the race won by Barnfield Rocky, the starter was seen running behind the traps to foot-start the traps mechanism, but the track management felt the result was not affected and gave the green light.
"It looked bad, no question about that," said one insider. "But in defence of the stewards, the dog that missed the break quite badly ended up winning. The result did not seem affected, but that won't appease punters."

Platinumlancelot roared back to form in the hurdles race on the Sky card. Jason Foster's dog went to the bend in good style and was never headed to bounce back after last week's defeat at Sittingbourne. He remains a warm order for the Hurdle of the Year honour at the GBGB Awards on January 31.

Troys Expert has returned to Britain. The dog formerly known as Romeo Expert was a big-money purchase from breeder Dave Firmager's kennel, who he won the Swindon Produce Stakes for in track record time, to Ireland. However, after a couple of defeats he has returned to England. Now with Charlie Lister, the Derby is his aim.Troys (Romeo) Expert can be backed at [42.0] for the Derby. Eye Onthe Storm is favourite at [14.5].

The Betfair Arc is currently occupying the minds of form students ahead of Saturday's second round at Swindon. Fastest of the round was first heat winner Westmead Osprey with a 28.83sec success for trainer Nick Savva, while training honours on the night went to Savva and Paul Sallis with two wins apiece.

David Sullivan's takeover of West Ham with his business partner David Gold has overshadowed his links to a possible purchase of Walthamstow. However, as one source pointed out yesterday, the deals are completely separate and one does not affect the other.
"The Stow deal and bid to buy the track from London & Quadrant is still on. It's about getting a competitive price for the land from L&Q and opposing, with the help of local residents, their every move to build houses there.
"They are aware of the passion and support for greyhound racing, and have even spoke about sharing the land, playing a part in the greyhound racing and leisure business, as well as having housing. Remember, Shelbourne have done that so successfully.
"It's just another twist in the story. It's still all very much in the melting pot."
