"The consortium are looking to gain access to the site to gauge what damage and decay has occurred at the venue since it shut to greyhound racing in August 2008."

All the latest news from the ever-intriguing world of greyhound racing.

BOHERNA BEST, a multiple winner at the 2008 Greyhound of the Year awards, is in line for a major Irish victory.

The dog owned by Anthony Rhodes and formerly trained by Barrie Draper, is now with Owen McKenna in Co. Tipperary and won his second round heat of the Irish Laurels at Cork on Saturday.

Racing to a comfortably fastest-of-the-night 28.51sec success, he heads into next week's quarter-finals as the greyhound to beat.

Ex-American dog Kiowa Myth and Irish Derby second Oran Classic were among the other heat winners.

LENSON BOLT put himself in line for the GBGB Newcomer of the Year honour at the 2009 annual awards in January with victory in Friday's Romford Puppy Cup final.
The dog, part-owned by Len Ponder, reversed semi-final form with Westmead Carl to add the youngsters' annual to his all-aged Kent Derby victory at Sittingbourne last month.

HARLOW staged the 40th Breeders Festival on Sunday, with the organisers reporting a good turnout on a warm September day.

As well as the various dog show classes for all ages of greyhounds, the Racing Post Stud Dog Parade attracted the likes of Fire Height Dan, Spiridon Louis, Lenson Joker, Sonic Flight and Mega Delight, the latter one of the most successful dams of all-time.

CONNECTIONS of leading hurdler Platinumlancelot have been rocked by the news that the dog produced a positive sample after a race at Sittingbourne in July.

Although he stands to lose that particular race, the star jumper will aim to continue his unbeaten run of success at Belle Vue a week on Tuesday before a crack at the Irish Grand National.

PLANS to reopen Walthamstow are likely to reach a crucial stage in the run-up to Christmas.

A consortium looking to buy the land from housing developer L&Q has a series of meetings planned with the local council and representatives of the site's owners.
They are looking to gain access to the site to gauge what damage and decay has occurred at the venue since it shut to greyhound racing in August 2008.

This will then determine any asking price for the land which was sold by the Chandler family for a reputed £18m.

TARGET BRETT is in pole position to add the Laurels to his recent Manchester Puppy Cup success over the same course and distance when he lines up in the semis at Belle Vue on Thursday.

Julie Bateson's dog won his heat in a fast 27.66sec and now takes his chance in arguably the weakest of the three eliminators for Tuesdays week live-on-Sky final.
Slick Ace set the first round standard, Keith Allsopp's dog stopping the clock in 27.50sec.

THIS week's open-race action kicks off at Nottingham on Monday with the heats of the Produce Stakes.

The event has switched from its long-time home at Hall Green to the Colwick Park venue and Puppy Derby winner Westmead Logan is among a typically large entry for the £15,000 prize.
