Up Tempo is one of those dogs that is probably too good for A2 at Newcastle, but can't make it at A1 - he has contested four A1s in his last 11 races, losing them all. But today in this grade, given a cleanly run race, he is expected to make it three wins from his last nine A2 contests. Take anything over [3.5].
Ed Nicholson has been burning the midnight oil in his quest for BAGS winners today, and comes up with two dogs running at Newcastle...
Tin Tins looks to have a decent draw from trap two to work from in today's 2.58pm from Newcastle. The February 2008 whelp is still relatively inexperienced, but of his eight races at the track he has already won two, and consistently posts times in the 29.70s.
It's true that he is probably going to have run a little quicker to take this contest in a cleanly run race as both the trap one dog, Baby Nuggs, and the four dog, Creevy Jam, have recent 29.51s to their names - but both of those victories came in lower grades and there's every possibility our fellow will be ahead of them (and any crowding) at the first couple of bends.
Baby Nuggs posted that quick time when getting away to an unusually quick start last time in A4 and the double grade hike, plus a more pedestrian start should cause him problems here. Indeed, I expect Tin Tins to lead on the inside around bends one and two. If that was to happen Tin Tins would be very well placed to win and record a fast time as the son of Brookside Bear stays this 480m trip extremely well. I'm expecting him to open up about 4/1 on the track, but he is never well supported - so we might well get a value [7.0] or higher on Betfair before the traps open at 2.58pm.
At 3.53pm on the same Newcastle card it may be prudent to back another blue jacketed runner in Up Tempo. The black son of the brilliant Sonic Flight won in this A2 grade just a month ago posting a 29.58 and a 4.99 sectional. He came from 5th place off the second bend before powering up the home straight - and a similar come from behind run is expected today.
He wont have the early to keep tabs with most of his field - but that's not a bad thing as traps one and three should be at least a length up at the first bend- meaning Up Tempo will be able to turn the troublesome first corner without any crowding.
