Ed Nicholson picks two greyhounds to back today....

Monmore's circuit is one of the fairest tests of a greyhound anywhere in the world, and I am looking to continue our good recent run by selecting Proud Rooney (trap 5)to score there this evening.

Proud Rooney (7.26 Monmore) has shown as much zest for his sport as his namesake has for his, and with wins in A3 and A2 recently he contests top grade today.

He has a very smart turn of early foot and there's every chance that the Droopys Vieri 2007 whelp will lead this field into the first turn. If that was to be the case it would need a pretty smart run from any of his rivals to catch him in this form sort of form.

Last time he recorded a smart 28.94, and although there are faster dogs in oppoistion tonight, many of them are either out of form or will find it difficult to get the run of the race.

Our fellow should nip clear and pull three or four lengths ahead down the back straight.
He will be coming back to his field in the home straight, but I think he'll hang on from maybe the trap two or trap six dogs who both stay on. Back Proud Rooney at anything over [4.0].

Over at Newcastle, Fortune Brett, drawn trap one in the 5.58pm, looks to have been given a very good chance by the grader tonight. Like many of Brett Lee's produce, he is blessed with a good deal of early, and all things being equal really should lead this lot around the first two corners. A recent 29.72 would be good enough to take this and he really is a decent bet tonight. Back him at anything over [3.2].
