Richard Dunwoody

Richard Dunwoody rode his first winner in May 1983 and soon went on to establish himself as one of the all-time greats of National Hunt racing, winning a record 1,699 races in his career, overhauling the figure set by Peter Scudamore. Among his biggest triumphs were two Grand Nationals, the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle. He was champion jockey three years in succession from 1992-93 to 1995-96, with a season-best 197 winners, and partnered equine greats such as Desert Orchid and One Man.
Since retiring through injury in December 1999, Richard has undertaken various expeditions, including a 350-mile cross-country ski race to the Magnetic North Pole, and in January 2008 completed an amazing 673-mile trek to the South Pole.
Always up for a challenge, he successfully completed a 1,000 Mile Challenge for charity, walking the same mile 1,000 consecutive times for 1,000 consecutive hours in Newmarket in 2009, before taking part - albeit briefly - in the BBC's popular Strictly Come Dancing programme.
