Rich Perloff

Rich Perloff has been a fan of the Sport of Kings since January 2, 1971, the day he saw his first live horse race. How can he remember the date so precisely? "On my first visit to the racetrack, I saw Ack Ack lose.which he wouldn't do again for the rest of that year. He's still my favorite horse. That day, my dad and I picked four winners, and he bought me a new bicycle; is it any wonder I became a life-long fan?"

A native of Los Angeles, Rich grew up a stone's throw from Hollywood Park, and cut his handicapping teeth at the major Southern California tracks. Like many horseplayers, he has a particular fondness for the sun-and-surf environment of Del Mar, where he makes an annual appearance as a guest handicapper at one of their weekend pre-race seminars. He has also been posting his selections on Del Mar's official website for the past several years.

Prior to coming to work at TVG, Rich was an active theatre artist. Most recently, he was a member of the Theatre Arts faculty at Ohio University in Athens, OH. "It's a terrific university, and Athens is a great college town," he said. "What's more, it's only about 75 miles from Beulah Park, which means that I'm one of the few horseplayers I know who've actually met the Beulah Twins!"

Rich also seems to recall a strange interlude in his life during which he attended Law School at the University of Michigan, and went on to practice law for a time in San Diego, CA.but, he may have hallucinated that part.
