Ken Rudulph

After graduating from high school, Ken Rudulph enlisted in the Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., then went to Fort Hood, Tex., where he served as an instructor in nuclear, biological and chemical warfare.

When his two-year tour was up, he enrolled at California State University and involved himself in a long list of activities. One was acting, where he learned to be at ease before an audience of strangers. This led him to add a major in journalism, with the idea of a future in sports broadcasting.

Ken’s first job after college was with a local TV station in Sacramento, first as a fill-in reporter and anchor, then as a full-timer and host of a show called Good Morning, Sacramento. There were no sports assignments available, however, so he moved south to Orange County to work as a sports anchor and reporter for a local cable channel. This job gave him his start in horse racing, first covering the Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos, then doing features on local racing celebrities like trainer Bob Baffert and Bob and Beverly Lewis, owners of Charismatic, who won the 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness. TVG, then in its start-up phase, noticed this feature on the Lewises and invited him to audition. He has been at the network ever since.

In his spare time, Rudulph, an accomplished musician, plays guitar and sings in a band called Phat Mama, doing gigs mostly in Northern California. He has had many cameo appearances in movies, including Bruce Almighty and S.W.A.T., and he appeared as the San Diego Padres play-by-play broadcaster in a made-for-TV movie called Darwin Conspiracy.
