Guy McCrea is a sports journalist and tennis commentator. His dulcet Croydon tones can be heard in a wide variety of places including Eurosport, Radio Wimbledon and on Betfair’s live video coverage of the ATP Masters Series. Guy is also one of the on-site commentators for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s television world feed.
In the past, Guy helped put together behind-the-scenes video content for the WTA website. He cooked with Vera Zvonareva in Bangalore, toured Madrid’s Magic Box with Ana Ivanovic and tried to keep pace with Serena Williams as she sprinted through the streets of Rome during filming of the ‘Looking for a Hero’ television commercial.
Guy’s greatest journalistic triumph has to be the interview he secured with members of the 1995 Surrey cricket team for his school magazine. Despite some stern rebuffs from the media office (‘Mr Alec Stewart is an international cricketer and has plenty of other media requests to fulfil …’) he persevered – and so learnt a valuable lesson for the future!
When he doesn’t have to watch sport for a living, Guy enjoys watching sport. His teams of choice are Tottenham Hotspur and Surrey County Cricket Club – Darren Anderton and Adam Hollioake were his boyhood idols.
Guy’s best bets are undoubtedly those he never got round to actually placing. In particular, he remains bitter about failing to back Manchester United at Christmas to win the 2002/03 Premier League, when they were eight points adrift of Arsenal.
