"Georgeyboy" Riley is a sports presenter for BBC Radio Five Live and rugby league commentator for the BBC.

He began his Five Live career in 2004 after presenting for rival TalkSPORT and spent four seasons providing World Snooker’s radio coverage. He is now the chairman of the Snooker Writers’ Association.

At Five Live George can be heard on Weekend Breakfast and through the week on Drive, Simon Mayo and Breakfast, as well as stints presenting flagship sports show Five Live Sport and providing sports cameos on the Chris Evans Show on Radio 2.

Brought up in Leeds, rugby league is George’s passion. A career highlight came in the 2007-8 season when he was invited to join in weekly tag rugby league sessions with the Leeds Rhinos. Coach Tony Smith labelled him “hands like a digital watch” and allowed him access to training as he was so bad it kept the team’s morale up.

George now commentates on the game for the BBC and is a rugby league columnist on the BBC Sport website.

Bilingual, George has lived and worked in France, and played football for Leeds schoolboys. Early in 2009 he underwent laser eye surgery in a desperate bid to revive his playing career.
