David Artell started his career with his hometown club Rotherham United and went onto play 41 times during his 5 year stay. He was an integral part of the team that won a second successive promotion to the Championship and was named Young Player of the Year in 2000.

He had an extended loan spell at Shrewsbury in the 2002/03 season before making the short trip down the M1 motorway to join Keith Curle at Mansfield Town in the summer of 2003. He followed Curle two years later to link up with him at Chester City and went onto make over 90 appearances in his two year stay with the Blues picking up the Supporters Player of the Year in his final season. In June 2007 he left Chester to join Football League newcomers Morecambe and has amassed over 200 league appearances.

David lives in Chester with his wife Gemma and two young daughters. He is currently studying for a degree at Chester University in Forensic Science.
