Brian Meehan

Brian set up his own training business in Lambourn in 1992 starting with just eight horses, one of them owned by his ever supportive close friend Richard Hannon, to whom he had been assistant trainer for six years. Following on from his widely acknowledged successful start to training, Brian took over at the Sangster family's legendary Manton estate on the Wiltshire Downs in early 2006. It is considered by many to be Britain’s finest training establishment.

In Brian’s very first season training at Manton, he won two of the world's most valuable races - the Dubai Duty Free in the Middle East and Breeders' Cup Turf in the USA - resulting in prize money of £2,777,688; it also landed him the 'International Trainer of the Year' title. In between that magnificent twin triumph, he also registered a fine season on the domestic front, the highlight of which was David Junior's win in the Group 1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown.

Among the many other high-profile successes for Brian are his multiple Group 1 wins. They include the Champion Stakes, Prix Morny, Prix de la Foret, Cheveley Park, Grosser Dallmayr Preis, The Gazelle and, most recently, the Man O'War stakes with Red Rocks. He will be training an, as of yet, unnamed and unraced colt for the Timeform Betfair Racing Club this season.
