There were only two things between me and a career as a professional footballer – my left leg and my right leg. My primary school teachers spotted my ability to write (and talk) at an early age though, and I was encouraged to report on the games rather than hinder the team!

That led to 10 years as a sports journalist, before I spent eight years in Communications/PR at two football clubs: Watford (my team as a boy) and Charlton Athletic.

I’ve since followed my other great love – gambling – and after a spell with spread betting firm Spreadex, I joined Betfair’s Soccer team.

I’m hoping either of my two sons (Aidan and Liam) turn out to be the footballer I never was – and allow me to retire early.
