Unless you are extremely rich or incredibly stupid, then you will be more than aware that the entire planet is in a complete, financial mess. Banks are being bailed out by governments, dole queues are expanding by the minute and it seems every day a new, well-known firm closes its doors for the last time.

Whilst a lot of the blogs mentioned in my weekly round-up will probably never feel the pinch of a recession, these guys, the forget men, and women of the low stakes arena, most definitely do. In these dire times, we need to budget and cut as many costs as we can, often from our list of luxuries. One major luxury to some is having a crafty fag, and one man who has stopped the evil weed is Gavin, owner of the blog entitled Forever Learning

Gavin already runs bad at life as he supports Birmingham City but decided to make some lifestyle changes and stop smoking . Whilst this may seem like nothing special as hundreds of people quit everyday, his recollection of a visit to a hypnotherapist, when he quit smoking 18 month ago, is hilarious! I love how he and his mate tried to bribe the hypnotherapist and whilst I can't really put here what Gavin wanted I can tell you "my mate had called him before the appointment to try and bribe him into making me quack like a duck if I thought about a fag."

A blog I found recently has me coming back for more and more and that is the blog of Joppa Road I can't link to the cumcumber post but his most recent entry about possibly spending time with his son is a good read, even if it is because he is brutally honest with his writing. Some of his posts would even make Amatay blush but you cannot take away the fact he is a talented writer and makes even "normal" situations sound fun.

Another straight talking small-stakes player, who's blog I have read for what seems an age, is Rosie's GirliePoker Don't be put off by the blog title, it is anything but pink ribbons and cute kittens. In fact Rosie shoots from the hip and has an amazing way of telling the reader even the most mundane of things. Whenever I read one of Rosie's entries, I always want a little bit extra on the end, which now often happens with a nice little recipe from the girl who I would love to see in a cook off with Gordon Ramsey!

One man who is now a small-stakes player, after dropping down limits is Rossi. Neil Ross recently dropped some hours at work in order to pursue a part-time poker career. I think we started playing around the same time and whilst he's gone onto the dizzy heights of $2/$4 I have stayed stagnant the micros. As is the case with the vast majority of micro and small-stakes bloggers, I cannot really single out a particular entry of note as each one is well thought out, down to Earth and honest, a theme that the higher stakes guys seem to deviate from.

I seem to have over-run here but I must mention UKGatsby who regularly kills the small stakes MTTs, wears his heart on his sleeve and gives out monthly Gatsby Awards, which when you "win" one, like I have, is pretty cool! Shame he supports Newcastle United! Last guy I need to mention but can't link to the exact post is Rubbish At Poker Scroll down to the 9th February's entry for an absolute scream, if you find that sort of thing funny!

    Hi Pud,
Thanks for the nod, it was a scary time. Only lasted for about ten minutes but seemed like a lifetime.
    All the best.

  2. Rosie | 13 February 2009

    Thanks for the mention.

Will have to look at the mudanity now, obv!
Let me know if you ever try one of the recipes

  3. Gavin | 13 February 2009

Cheers for the mention Pud. The Birmingham City comment was uncalled for but fair imo :)

  4. Rossi | 14 February 2009

LOL, am making more money now playing micro-stakes than I did at $2/4, and without the stress.

Been 12 tabling atm and it seems to be working out fine, hopefully I will be able to move up a few limits over the next year.

To be honest I dont really care, as long as I can take £200-£300 wages out per month then I am happy.....working full time again....NO WAY!!!

Hope your sticking to your plans PUD?!!
