Ante-post choices Directors Chair and Glittering Aries dominate Birmingham Cup betting

Darrell Williams picks the punts for Tuesday night's Sky-televised card from Hall Green...

Sky Sports cameras visit Hall Green on Tuesday for the first of 35 live greyhound programmes this year, featuring the final of the Prestige Stakes.

For those who got stuck into my ante-post advice things could hardly have worked out better with suggestions Directors Chair ('my number one choice') and Glittering Aries totally dominating the betting for the final. If you did play earlier you can of course lock in a profit now, but I'd be very surprised if the winner doesn't come from our two runners.

Trying to determine which one however is a lot more difficult and there is a case to be argued for both sides. However, despite a far from perfect draw in trap five, Directors Chair, who remember beat his rival in the Midland St Leger over this trip last month, earns my vote. While his outside berth is hardly ideal, the vacant trap alongside will be a big help as he attempts to edge across to the inside rail. The Mark Wallis runner remains in great form with seven wins in his last nine starts and remains unbeaten at the track (4/4). Glittering Aries, like the selection, has also won both heat and semi-final, and is undoubtedly the biggest danger; whatever happens here, Peter Billingham's charge, also a finalist in a Monmore competition last month, looks set for a good season.

On the supporting card, I fancy Droopys Nelson to provide up-and-coming handler Dean Childs with another winner in the six bend race at 8.50. A finalist in the Blue Riband over four bends at this venue last year, the selection held off Greyhound of the Year candidate Spiridon Louis to spring a surprise on Oaks final night and I take him to account for Genesis Alix, who drops back from marathons, albeit with a decent trial over this trip.

I'm also keen on Fine Moment in the puppy race (8.35) for Wimbledon handler Jason Foster. The youngster won an Open at his home track just before Christmas and should get first run from his trap two pitch. The fact he has been given a trial at Hall Green is a big plus and I take him to beat progressive local grader Drink Up Zorro.

The four bend race at 9.10 looks decent, but given his liking for the track, champion trainer Charlie Lister's Affleck Elite gets my vote. A Gymcrack semi-finalist last summer, he has posted a number of quick times over CD and confirmed his current well being with a win at Hull after a short layoff ten days ago. 'Miss consistent' Jazz Hurricane naturally rates a danger, but the Oaks finalist comes here without a previous look at a circuit which is not always easy to run first time.

Elsewhere, I go with Baran Hawaii (7.40), who can dominate the sprint from traps rise, while Kildare Lark (8.00) can continue his rich vein of form in the hurdles race - his trial last week reads particularly well.
