Forum obsessive (front row, check shirt) sheds light on the sport...
How did you get into the sport?
When I was 18 I went to Walthamstow dog track for my mate's birthday. I remember it well. It was a total buzz, but as usual I did my wallet, and got a £40 parking ticket outside ... should have stopped there shouldn't I?
What has been your proudest moment?
Proudest moment was being part of Whiskey Coffee who started of in A9 at Stow and within six months won the Stow puppy final it was such a great feeling. Especially when your holding a 20/1 antepost ticket
...and your lowest?
My lowest would be the loss of betfair user odds-on, Bob fox who started our syndicate. He was a true gent and a massive greyhound fan his sudden lost was sad
Greyhound racing is better than horseracing because...
No jockeys; 30 seconds of pure thrilling action (not a four minute bore); easier to back winners.
What are the three most important factors to consider before backing a dog?
Age of dog (like a pup)
Draw
Early pace
What must the sport do to attract more investment and interest from Joe Public?
Make it affordable for more owners to get involved.
TV coverage needs someone younger "like me". No offence but Sky Sports guys
all 50+
More PR events (for example a room hired out where everyone gets involved
meal, raffle, competiitons). Make it more FUN.
Who is the best trainer around at the moment? And who is the greatest ever?
No question, Nick Savva. One word: GOD.
Who is your best mate within greyhound racing and why?
My fellow punter (recently gone dry from gambling he will be back). Dave got me in the game and helped me to become the good judge I am today
Which is your favourite-ever dog?
Palacemewslad - an Open racer/high-grade dog at 'Stow. Had amazing early and
did me so many favours. Would have to say this was the dog that got me
hooked.
Which is your favourite track?
Walthamstow simply the best (shame about the %)
What one piece of advice would you give someone starting out in the industry?
In terms of betting don't go mad start small and stick to one or two tracks.
STAY AWAY FROM BAGS.
Do you ever read the Betfair forum?
Too much.
And finally give us a tip for next year's Derby...
I will find an Irish raider soon don't worry :)
