One punter gets 50p on at [300.0] in running as Kinda Ready stuns Wimbledon...
There was widespread disbelief at Wimbledon last night as Kinda Ready, the outsider of the sextet, picked up trailbrazer Fear Zafonic to win the Blue Square Greyhound Derby - but race goers were not as shocked as some in-running punters on Betfair.
It looked for the whole world that Fear Zafonic was finally going to end the trap one hoodoo in the final - there has been no red box winner since the Derby moved to Wimbledon in 1985 - and Betfair punters agreed, with the greyhound being backed at [1.01] as he scorched clear.
There was £1,500 matched at the minimum price alone, and plenty more at [1.02] upwards.
But Kinda Ready, who drifted to [50.0] on Betfair pre-race and was matched at [180.00] in the ante-post market, hit overdrive on the short run-in to collar Fear Zafonic. That was good news for the punter who got the princely sum of 50p matched on the winner at [300.00] in running.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "No one at the track could quite believe what they were seeing as the final unfolded.
"But one thing is now for certain - it is a betting fact that no trap one contender can ever trade shorter for the Wimbledon Derby again, and lose. The red box jinx has reached its lowest point."
