"Head Iton Paul can account for Micks Ginger in 9:02. I’d be looking for [2.0] ideally."
Open race fans can get their fix at Monmore this evening with a mixed selection of races amongst the non-graded part of the BAGS card, writes Darrell Williams.
Head Iton Paul (9.02) returns to his favourite haunt, having clocked the fastest time of the year when winning a competition over the specialist 416m trip last month, and looks worth staying with as he bids to make it 4/4 over the CD.
A win at Oxford last week suggests he is still in rude health and he can account for Micks Ginger, who was behind the selection in a similar race back in July. I'd be looking for [2.0] ideally.
Bawna Anna (8.14) won on her return from a layoff over the Monmore 480m trip last weekend and can dish out further punishment in a similar bitches only contest. Chris Allsop's charge, who won the Puppy Oaks at Nottingham in early summer, will need to be on her toes to clear Severn Barcelona, who was behind her last week, but has now drawn the red jacket. But given her likely improvement with a run under her belt, 'Anna' can go in again. Look for [2.3] or bigger.
Bower Surfer could hardly have been more impressive in the recent Puppy Cesarewitch final at Peterborough and can confirm that form with his old rival Bodell Clare, who was a well beaten third in that race having beaten the selection in the heats, when they clash in the 9:17 at Monmore. With the benefit of a 'look round' under her belt, Bower Surfer should ensure the final form is upheld. I'd be looking for 2.8 plus.
