"While Lenson Bolt certainly represents the value, I think Westmead Carl will confirm the form and if you can track down [1.8] or bigger I’d take it."
The puppies hold centre stage tonight with the final of the Romford Puppy Cup (9:20) and it will be a surprise if the winner isn't either Westmead Carl or Lenson Bolt, writes Darrell Williams.
Westmead Carl was winner when he met Lenson Bolt in a dress rehearsal in the semi-final last week.
Lenson Bolt, who was bumped in the latter part of that race, had gone off as favourite, and the Kent Derby winner - he also broke the track record at host track Sittingbourne - will have his supporters, especially if going off near [4.0] as anticipated. However, while he certainly represents the value, I think Westmead Carl will confirm the form and if you can track down [1.8] or bigger I'd take it.
There's a similar match up in the Stayers final (9.04) between Go Big Hitter and Droopys Carvalho, but on this occasion there's likely to be less between them in the prices, which in my mind makes it an easier decision. While Droopys Carvalho, who surprised me slightly with his win on Monday, looks well drawn outside Centurion Enry, Essex Vase winner Go Big Hitter has been so effective at the track that I'm reluctant to go against him. With an early lead he's for the taking, grab anything at [2.3] or better.
Courtenay Ranger can complete a CD five timer by claiming a competitive supporting race at 10.08. David Mullins' charge, who impressed on the Sky card when picking up Me Buddy earlier in the month, is one of only a couple in the race who is not reliant on an early lead and at around 3.5 is also worth a wager.
