"Toker Rock is a greyhound who is on a hat trick following victories in A3 and A2 class. On both occasions he has cracked out of the boxes, never been headed and recorded good times of 29.43 and 29.42. However, there are reasons why we can LAY him this evening in Newcastle’s 8.13pm."
Newcastle put on a decent card tonight and Ed Nicholson thinks he's found a couple of greyhounds in A1s to follow this evening....
There are plenty of good greyhounds running on Newcastle's BAGS card tonight as their meeting has a good mixture of A1, A2 and A3 contests.
Toker Rock is a greyhound who is on a hat trick following victories in A3 and A2 class. On both occasions he has cracked out of the boxes, never been headed and recorded good times of 29.43 and 29.42. However, there are reasons why we can LAY him this evening in Newcastle's 8.13pm.
Firstly, although sectionals in the 4.70's should see him lead the railers into the first bend, there is a slight concern that the orange jacketed runner could nose ahead of him as they approach the turn. Once headed Toker Rock doesn't find much and if he wasn't to lead this particular field around the first two bends then I doubt he'd win.
Secondly, he has never previously been this class of dog. Obviously he is improving at a rapid rate of knots and it doesn't mean that he isn't capable of winning at this level - but the fact he was beaten in A3 class less than a month ago doesn't inspire confidence.
Finally, with many of the field regular A1 animals clocking times in the 29.40s, there must be a strong likelihood that one will get a clear passage and even if Toker Rock does trap smartly, one of his field could be on his hocks earlier than usual.
All in all, a lay of the trap three dog Tocker Rock at anything less than [3.5] in Newcastle's 8.13pm could prove a successful strategy.
The final race on their card is the 9.14pm another A1 contest - and it's arguably the best race on the card. Trap six, Droopys Alastair, has posted times in the 29.20's, and he has a nice draw here. He can also do it both ways, but I feel he will have to weave his way through his field as he did last time. If he was to lead it would be all over based on his last run where he passed four dogs to win in 29.20. One or more of traps two, three and four will probably lead him, but he can be close enough to mow any - or all of them - down late on. Take anything over [4.0].
