The Hawk makes further additions to his virtual kennel as he tells us how a two-year-old whelp proved herself in the A2 class and asks what next for Dina Sah Lass, Onthewayout and Sadlers Jenny?
Dinn Sah Lass should be winning soon. The January '07 whelp made relentless late headway last Thursday at Sunderland to finish third, beaten just over a length in an A2 contest.
She has proved herself in this grade - she won three A2's within the space of three weeks last August/September and has since run creditably in top grade events.
Her come-from-behind tactics mean that she invariably finds trouble - crowded comments appear in each of her last eight races! But, she has pinged the lids on occasions and she isn't a bitch who can only run on - sectionals of 5.05 and 5.06 on her card demonstrate this.
She has won six of her thirty runs in A2 company at Sunderland, and has a 15.9% success rate during her career at the track. She won three races ago but since has not had the run of any race - even last time when finishing third.
She entered the notebook as she made rapid headway in the home straight that day, and by the pick up had passed the winner - a staying sort in his own right. If she can get anywhere near a level start and avoid crowding she could well score at a big price within her next three races. I am very much looking forward to monitoring her in the coming weeks.
Her racecourse odds over the last few races have been 9.0, 9.0, 5.0, 6.0, 11.0 9.0 and 9.0 - I also note she ran 3rd in n A1 contest back in October at 21.0!
Recommendation: Dinn Sah Lass A2 Sunderland
Onthewayout, a Droopys Scholes March 2007 whelp, was made a strong [2.75] favourite by the Poole course bookmakers last Sunday for an A7 contest, and was a little unlucky even though beaten [4.75] lengths into third place.
The youngster has only had nine runs, and is still a little green. She missed the break and from there on in was facing an uphill battle. She was crowded at the first bend and swung wide, but then showed good straight back pace to put herself back in with a chance but then couldn't decide whether to go inside or outside the trap two runner off the final turn. Given a clear she would have gone close as she recorded a fairly smart 27.83 with the trouble. She has shown she runs on at Poole over this standard trip and I think her turn isn't far away. She has a 50% record at A7.
Recommendation: Onthewayout A7 Poole
Finally to Kinsley - a track I like. I particularly like to be on the wide dogs there when the going gets wet, and we have one to go to war with in the next few weeks. Sadlers Jenny isn't young but she has a bit of early and stays on. He has raced 75 times already - but he can win for the 17th time shortly, especially in the current A6 grade where he is 9-37.
She goes into the virtual kennel following a decent performance on Tuesday night where she didn't break in her best manner but showed decent back straight pace before getting a bump as she was making a move down the back straight. She wouldn't have won, but she may well have got second but for that interference - and she was paw to paw up the home straight with dogs who usually finish stronger than she does. In soft going from the stripes she would be a very decent bet in this grade - especially if inside a slow starter.
Recommendation: Sadlers Jenny A7 Kinsley
Update
Duisk Prince won on his very next outing at [2.25] after being highlighted in this column by no less than 4.5 lengths, while Clover Holly finished second again (at [4.0]). She has now finished second twice and only has one more chance before we have to decide whether to give her another three runs. Swift Blade also finished second in a 730 Open race at Nottingham on Tuesday night. I still think he is worth a chance over four bends.
Blue Hawaii finished third at [3.0] on Tuesday when missing the break, and will be winning shortly.
