"Shandon Max (11.58 Hove) is one of those greyhounds whose fate you'll know pretty quickly as he's all about early speed, but I fancy he might just get away this morning and prove beyond catching. "
Darrell Williams rounds out his first week of the Daily Dogs Bet column with three more selections...
After a spate of Open races and plenty of A1/A2 races on the BAGS card this week, today's offerings are moderate in comparison. Personally, unless you've spotted a likely improver who can go through the grades, I always prefer the higher quality races as the form tends to hold up a little better.
Shandon Max (11.58 Hove) is one of those greyhounds whose fate you'll know pretty quickly as he's all about early speed, but I fancy he might just get away this morning and prove beyond catching. Sectionals suggest he should have at least a length on the field at the line first time and I'm siding with him to make all, but I'd want [3.5] at least.
My next selection is more speculative, but Caminho has found himself in a moderate A4 on his return from a layoff (3.37 Oxford) and may be able to take advantage He was more than good enough to thrash similar company before his absence and a positive trial suggests he can make an impact. We can probably ask for, and get [5.0] on this one.
Reno (1.19 Perry Barr) has the type of profile I like in looking for potential lays - a poor strike rate, but more importantly plenty of near misses. He has been second five times recently and with one win from his last 18 starts he is one to take on. Trade at [4.5] or better.
