A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way...

Saint Etienne and Marseille combined to score five goals last night. The Joker had hoped for no more than two. The Coupe de la Ligue seems as though it might be like the FA Cup then - full of romance. Only more so, because it's French.

Still, at least the Joker didn't lose any of his own money on the game. He might have indicated yesterday that he had some winnings from earlier in the week. In the nick of time, and with a little help from his friends (thanks, Boris the Bat), he realised he didn't have anything burning a hole in his pocket because there'd been a very late third goal in Pescara-Cavese on Monday night. He's learnt his lesson and will now be filing his copy at the last minute and absolutely not before.

Today's game is Atletico Madrid and Recreativo de Huelva's Copa del Rey second leg in the Spanish capital. Atletico were embarrassed in the first leg and start this one from a long way behind. Their games at the Vicente Calderon tend to go Over 2.5 Goals - in all competitions, nine of the last 10 have - even when they're not playing all-out attack from the first whistle.
