X marks the spot - Malisse is Sean's bet of the day
"Malisse enjoys the grass court season and gave Murray a big fright at Queen’s and at [2.04], he looks the bet of the day."
Sean Calvert is off to Wimbledon this afternoon on what looks set to be a splendid Saturday. But will you follow his advice?
The rain break did for Daniela Hantuchova yesterday, but at least those who layed Gael Monfils had a stress-free profit, as Lukasz Kubot took the first set of their incomplete match and guaranteed us a green book.
I'm off to the All England Club on Saturday and it looks like a great line-up on Centre Court, including Roger Federer v David Nalbandian and Novak Djokovic v Marcos Baghdatis.
Federer against Nalbandian has been a classic series over the years, with the Swiss leading narrowly 10-8, but with the Argentine just inching back after injury, you would expect Fed to win their first ever meeting on grass.
He's around [1.06] to do just that, which is a bit stingy, so a hopefully more profitable bet can be found out on Court 12, where Xavier Malisse takes on Jurgen Melzer.
We've already made a profit with one Belgian this week, and I'm siding with another today to put an end to Melzer's tournament.
Malisse enjoys the grass court season and gave Murray a big fright at Queen's and at [2.04], he looks the bet of the day.
He has an enviable career record against left handers such as Melzer and a head-to-head advantage over the Austrian, who will probably be jaded after a long battle with Dmitry Tursunov.
Malisse has won an impressive 68 percent of his matches against lefties and beat Melzer in straight sets in their last meeting, which was on a hard-court.
They've never met on grass, but Malisse has the better surface record and Melzer has only once reached the last 16 at Wimbledon, so for me it all points to a Belgian win.
In today's ladies singles, the best bet looks to be Marion Bartoli to defeat Flavia Pennetta at around [1.46].
The French player came within a whisker of defeat yesterday, but pulled the win out of the bag, which highlights her recently found mental strength.
She's won 16 of her last 18 matches on all surfaces and seven in a row on grass, including wins over Petra Kvitova and Victoria Azarenka on the green stuff and she's beaten Pennetta on grass too.
In fact, the pair's last meeting was at Wimbledon in 2007, with Bartoli winning 6-3, 6-1 and I would expect her to prevail again on Saturday on a surface that clearly favours her over the Italian, who hasn't bettered the third round here since 2006.
