Can America's no.1 shock Spain's no.1?
"Fish has a great record against left-handed players winning his last ten matches in a row."
Ben Caudell picks the stats that matter ahead of the men's quarter-finals and he foresees trouble for the reigning champ
Given that my 'Stat Attack' selections are based on picking 'value' bets at odds against just one match stands out for a potential upset - Rafa Nadal v Mardy Fish. I have to confess that my selection is heavily influenced by the fact that Nadal has a slight problem with his left ankle.
Five Reasons to Back
Mardy Fish to defeat Rafael Nadal @ [5.8]
• No.10 seed Mardy Fish, who is at his highest ever world ranking of No.09, has hit 73 Aces at this year's Wimbledon compared with 33 for Nadal.
• Fish has a great record against left-handed players winning his last ten matches in a row.
• The American has won nine in a row on grass and four in a row in five set matches
• At The All England Club, Fish has held serve in 64 of his 65 games and has won 12 of 13 sets.
• The Florida resident leads the Wimbledon table of First Serve Points Won, winning 209 of 246 points equating to 85%. The Spaniard doesn't even appear in the Top 20 for this stat.
3-0 Lay of the day - Lay Federer 3-0 v Tsonga @ [2.24]
• Against David Ferrer in the fourth round, Tsonga won an astounding 93% of first service points, and hit 12 aces. The Frenchman is second only behind Feliciano Lopez in the Ace leaders table with a total of 78.
• Tsonga defeated Rafael Nadal in three sets before losing to Andy Murray in the final of Queens in the lead-up to Wimbledon.
• The Frenchman has defeated Federer once before in Montreal two seasons ago.
