Novak Djokovic is eyeing up a fifth Masters 1000 title of the year
"Djokovic has beaten the American in all seven of their completed matches and leads 15-3 in sets played between the pair."
Sean's ante-post bet Mardy Fish is in the final but he's up against the worst guy imaginable as Novak Djokovic will be on the other side of the net. We have to be realistic about Fish's chances, we have to predict a straight-sets defeat.
It was another up and down day at the 2011 Rogers Cup in Montreal on Saturday, with Mardy Fish winning comfortably, as predicted, but Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired against Novak Djokovic.
Tsonga's arm injury meant that he was unable to produce the level he needed to beat the imperious world number one and that unenviable task now falls squarely on the shoulders of Fish in Sunday night's final.
We've made a few quid out of backing Mardy at the start at [65.0] this week, and it would be nice to think that he could make a match of this final, but the chances look slim.
Djokovic has beaten the American in all seven of their completed matches and leads 15-3 in sets played between the pair.
Their last meeting was in the semi final of the Masters 1000 event in Miami this year, which Nole won 6-3, 6-1 and I can't see anything but a similar result when the final begins at around 8pm UK time.
The early losses of Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal in this tournament meant that Fish hasn't had to play anyone ranked inside the top-15 in the world to reach his fourth Masters 1000 final (0-4 in those finals) and the gulf in class should be evident from the start.
Djokovic is looking to make history by winning five Masters 1000 titles in the same season and become the first new world number one to win their first event after gaining the top spot since Pete Sampras in 1993.
He's been getting better and better as this tournament has progressed, following a shaky start against a fired-up Nikolay Davydenko, and it's hard to see how Fish can hurt the Wimbledon champion with his solid, but unspectacular playing style.
Fish has been vulnerable on serve this week to returners of a much lower calibre than Djokovic, who is probably the best in the business right now, and unless Fish improves out of sight in that department, Djokovic should run away with this.
You won't get massively rich off this, but the bet has to be Djokovic 2-0 at around [1.38].
