Another victory for Andy Murray?
"Murray is playing exceptionally well at the moment, is looking in great shape and will no doubt be the fresher of the two having played significantly less tennis at this year’s Australian Open. Murray has has won every single one of his 14.5 sets so far, while Cilic has played 22 sets, winning 15 and dropping seven."
Murray is yet to drop a set in the Melbourne heat and that should count in his favour against an opponent who has been taken to the brink five times, says Ben Caudell
Andy Murray (GBR) v Marin Cilic (CRO)
Boxing fan Murray dealt Rafael Nadal a knockout blow in the quarter finals and will be pleased to know that Ricky 'The Hit Man' Hatton will be ringside once again when the Scotsman takes on Marin Cilic of Croatia.
The 24-year-old Brit is understandably the odds-on favourite to win this semi-final (start time 8.30am GMT) which would take him to the final of a Grand Slam tournament for only the second time in his career.
Murray is playing exceptionally well at the moment, is looking in great shape and will no doubt be the fresher of the two having played significantly less tennis at this year's Australian Open. Murray has has won every single one of his 14.5 sets so far, while Cilic has played 22 sets, winning 15 and dropping seven.
The Croatian has played three epic five-set matches against Bernard Tomic, Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Roddick so will be a little more fatigued than Murray coming into this semi-final match. That said, Cilic will still be confident in his ability to make a Grand Slam final for the first time having defeated Murray in the fourth Round of last year's US Open in straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-2. The overall head-to-head series, however, reads 3-1 in Murray's favour.
Murray will be seeking revenge for his loss at Flushing Meadow, is more experienced than his younger opponent and is better suited to the slower Australian hard court surface, and the mental and physical aspect of his game has improved significantly over the last six months as well as his tactical nous. Cilic will undoubtedly cause the Brit a few problems and is good value to back at 5.2 pre match in the match odds. But will we witness another Federer v Murray final? I believe we will...
