Peter Hanson – Set for a good week at Congressional?
“Peter Hanson has both current form and event form, just the right composed and patient demeanour, and he looks worth chancing in a number of markets.”
Robert Karlsson was in great form last week but Steve thinks he's worth taking on at Congressional...
There are a plethora of Specials markets for this week's US Open and one of my pre-event picks features in a few of them.
Peter Hanson has now played in four US Opens and he's improved his place every time. He missed the cut on debut back in 2005 before returning two years later to finish in a tie for 30th. He missed the event in 2008 but in the last two years he's finished T18th at Bethpage Black and T16th at Pebble Beach.
He held a great chance to win the Saab Wales Open two weeks ago but after a great start to round four he was somewhat disappointing and he eventually finished 4th. That followed a fair effort at the PGA Championship at Wentworth and a cracking performance at the Players Championship, where he topped the all-round rankings when finishing in the top-20.
He has both current form and event form, just the right composed and patient demeanour, and he looks worth chancing in a number of markets.
His best chance has to be in the Top Scandinavian market where Robert Karlsson could just be a bit short. Understandably, with a fair event record (4th in '08 and 28th last year) and coming off a narrow defeat on Sunday in Memphis, Karlsson will undoubtedly have his supporters but I think there's a chance Sunday's disappointment might take its toll.
I'm not overly keen on any of Hanson's other rivals in that market and at anything above [4.0], he looks a fair bet.
He may also be worth a play in the more competitive Top Continental European market at [15.0] and above.
Selection:
Peter Hanson @ [4.0] or above
